Dimple Creates Designer Resort Wear for any Occasion

What’s your story?
I am originally from India and an actress by profession. I worked in the television industry for more than 15 years. My career began with modelling, then theatre, and eventually television soaps and films.

It is not surprising that my interest in fashion comes from this creative background. I am a self-taught designer, and my inspiration comes from the grandeur and exuberance of costumes and jewelry that one sees in the Indian cinema.

When I moved to Hong Kong over four years ago with my husband and daughter, I wanted to be a part of a fashion design project that I was passionate about. I also wanted to work at something that wouldn’t be a full-time job to allow me to spend quality time with my daughter.

After doing some market research, I realized that  Hong Kong lacked options for resort wear like kaftans, summer dresses, and coverups, that were readily available. And that’s when I decided to come up with the brand Baysiclove Resortwear https://www.instagram.com/baysiclove/?hl=en, a one-stop solution for unique, premium, and glamorous beachwear.

What excites you most about your industry?
The interaction with my clients, who come from all walks of life, and creating designs for them is what excites me the most. I love that I wake up every morning with a smile on my face because I am doing something that I am passionate about. And I love having the freedom to create designs that inspire me.

What’s your connection to Asia?
I was born in India and, until recently, have lived there all my life. I love my country and its diversity. All my designs are inspired by India’s timeless heritage and rich culture. Hong Kong, where I moved after getting married, holds a very special place in my heart since I have made lifelong friendships here.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
It’s definitely Hong Kong. Hong Kong makes it very simple and encouraging for startups. First-time entrepreneurs can start a business without being apprehensive. The support system of brilliant like-minded individuals elevates the experience of being an entrepreneur.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
“Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.” — Michelle Obama

Even if you think it’s out of reach, still go for it. This is the advice I follow to keep my design projects moving forward.  I want to make a difference however big or small in people’s lives!

Who inspires you?
Definitely my mum. She has raised me to believe that anything can be achieved with hard work.  Never give up and stay true to yourself!!

My husband, who believes in me and keeps pushing me to do my best!

My tribe of fellow entrepreneurs. Without them I certainly would not be where I am today.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?

Seventy percent of small businesses are owned and operated by a single person. It’s good to know I am not alone!

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I don’t think I would do anything differently as I truly believe that one should learn from their mistakes and move forward. Life has taught me a lot and I have only evolved to be a better person.

How do you unwind?
To unwind, I like to go on hikes and I love to dance. I also  like reading books to my daughter before she goes to sleep and then having a glass of red wine with my husband while watching something on Netflix.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
I absolutely love Goa! My grandmom was from there and I have been visiting since I was a kid. I feel at home when I am in Goa. I could spend hours vegetating on the beach, sipping a beer and enjoying the sunset. I might retire there someday!

Everyone in business should read this book
Michelle Obama’s “Becoming” is the most incredible and inspiring book I have read in recent times.

The book lifts up your spirits and gives you that extra push and encouragement a woman of color needs to go the extra mile.

Shameless plug for your business:
Most of our products are handmade in India. We use high-quality fabrics sourced from all over the world and combine them with intricate hand-work and craftsmanship by some very talented artisans in India. It not only gives them job opportunities but also helps us showcase to the world, some of the dying art of India. Experimenting with vibrant colors, fabrics, and embellishments is what makes each piece unique while exuding luxury and glamour.

Whether you are getting a tan at the beach, spa treatments, enjoying a sundowner or on your honeymoon, BAYSICLOVE Resortwear is a perfect match for any occasion!
