Inspired by all that is around her, and particularly natural light. Gunilla Lindgren went from a normal desk job to being a professional photographer after being gifted a camera. Now she can’t put it down.

What’s your story?
Whats my story? I worked in a pharmaceutical company in Sweden. A normal desk job that smoothly went forward. Then we moved to Singapore and I did volunteer work for a few years.

One birthday my hubby bought me a Canon camera I told him “you shouldn’t have. You know these things just end up under the bed or stored away in some old box.” Next thing you know I developed my passion for photography. Now I live and breath photos and I love it! So I am the owner and photographer for Sugarlight Photography which specialises in natural light photography.

What excites you most about your industry?
My favorite part of working is definitely my clients. Meeting people from all over the world who want to create something meaningful and important for their home and family. Going through that experience together from the first phone call, to delivering their photos is the best rush ever!

What’s your connection to Asia?
We moved from Sweden to Singapore ten years ago, from that point on I have been in love with this place! It’s perfect for me. Asia in itself has been explored by me and my family many times!

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Singapore is definitely my favourite. We have all types of people from different cultures here and that’s something I also want to capture in my pictures.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
People advise me all the time “Gunilla do this, do that,” but I think the one piece of advice that I really need to hear most of the time is, “believe in yourself” and “do what you love.”

Who inspires you?
The thing about me is, I don’t just have one person or thing that inspires me. I walk around the east coast in the mornings and take in all the beauty it has to deliver. That in itself inspires me. I go and look at a video from one of my favourite photographers and that inspires me just as much.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
I learn something new each week, especially on marketing and sales and it is thrilling to be excited by learning something new.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
If I got to do it all over again knowing that my passion in photography would be so strong, I would have started photographing at a much younger age (not that I am old now).

How do you unwind?
I unwind by being with my family. We go to the east coast beach on Sunday mornings for breakfast and just chill.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
Bali has to be the most relaxing place I have ever visited. There is not a lot of sound, all you hear is the sound of the waves hitting the rocks. The friendly people and of course, nature. I rent a car and go exploring.
