Kanch Is Always Creating New Food Fusions

What’s your story?
I am a fashion entrepreneur and plant based chef. Owning a range of businesses, I’ve been a serial entrepreneur for over 10 years. In my latest venture, I take you on a sensuous culinary journey into plant based cuisine.

Burnt out after a high stress career, I decided to take on healing myself and became a health coach. This led me to a shift in the way I lived and ate. It also ignited my curiosity about food and its healing properties. Born to Indian parents, I grew up in an aromatic kitchen where my mother’s spice dabba was her pot of gold, and with every meal, she was the alchemist. This brought me to the realization that her creativity was in the kitchen and the table was her soul. I believe, on the table, the soul of the chef is transparent, the better the food you eat, the better you think.

What excites you most about your industry?
In both Fashion and Food, creativity is fundamental.

What’s your connection to Asia?
I have a strong connection to Asia. I was born in India, grew up in Hong Kong, and have done considerable travel in Asia. Asia runs through my veins. It is where I feel at home and most comfortable. It holds the ashes of closest family members who have left us and it is where my kids were born and my family and life has started.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Hong Kong, for its ease of doing business and government efficiency! I also like the open nature of people in Hong Kong to support and connect with one another.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Get up, dress up, and show up, no matter how you feel.

Who inspires you?
My mother is my inspiration daily. I lost her 4 years ago but her spirit lives on. She often told me I could be and do anything I put my mind to.

What have you just learned recently that blew you away?
I realised how often I get in the way of being and achieving my best self.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would live more and worry less. On a more practical level, I often think I would have run my businesses differently, had fewer businesses, and focused more. But then, I realise that the journey is more than the destination.

How do you unwind?
What helps me unwind is hugging my kids, talking to my husband, enjoying a good glass of wine, having a good meal with my girl friends, or calling my mother-in-law.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
I love Lombok for their pristine beaches, the food, the culture, and just the vibe on that Island.
