Lee McKing helps others overcome problems using hypnosis.
What’s your story?
Long story short, I nearly died in my sleep when my lung burst 2 months before my 21st birthday. I went to school that day to deliver a presentation, screwed it up due to lack of breath, and subsequently went to A&E. The doctor showed me my X-Ray and my right lung had collapsed to the size of an egg. I was in a state of shock and the doctor said, “You will die,” and some other stuff and quite by accident, he hypnotised me into developing PTSD and I suffered the next few years in school. After every presentation, I would have this intense fear, and I would rush to the toilet and have a physical, emotional and mental breakdown. I would collapse onto the sink, unable to move, my tears, mucus and saliva flowed like it wouldn’t stop, each time I gave a presentation. I eventually went into depression. After I graduated, I decided to focus on health and learnt NLP and hypnosis to treat myself. After I resolved a number of issues within myself, I started helping people to find solutions to their issues. Then I started my own practice.
What excites you most about your industry?
The wonders of hypnosis and the power of the mind is so unexplored. I use hypnosis to guide people into their unconscious minds to solve problems. It’s so fascinating to meet new people and to use hypnosis to find unique and personalized solutions and resources for them. Besides the usual anxiety, anger, phobia issues, I use hypnosis to help people in unique and interesting cases, like helping a boy overcome his dyslexia within a session, or stimulating the cells of a 68 year old lady to heal a 2 inch bruise within 45 minutes. Weird huh? And yet so exciting!
What’s your connection to Asia?
I am Singaporean. My name seems Irish but I’m a Singaporean. I’m also Chinese.
Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Singapore, because it’s my home town. Although, it depends on your industry. There are a lot of tech startups in Singapore, but not a lot in my field. Rent isn’t cheap in Singapore, so it really does depend on what industry you are in.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Focus on what you love. Whether it’s your passion, your desires, your family and friends, if you focus on what you love to do, who to spend time with, who you wish to serve, you will have a fruitful life.
Who inspires you?
Many people, from inspiring hypnotists, to great minds like scientists and philosophers and a whole lot more. I get inspiration from different people depending on the situation. Although if I were to say the top ones, I would say my parents. My dad for always thinking outside the box, he’s creative and for teaching me what’s right and wrong. My mum for her perseverance and fortitude, the logical person I can discuss anything with and for supporting what I love. My parents inspire me to do my best, do what I love, and enjoy what I do each day.
What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
Currently I am learning so much from my clients. A recent client actually solved 15 issues within a session and that just blew my mind, because it showed how powerful the unconscious mind really is.
If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I wouldn’t do anything differently. Me being here today is a result of all my various experiences, of successes and failures, of life and death, so I wouldn’t do anything differently.
How do you unwind?
I hypnotise myself! Other than that, I read on occasion, I like walks and a game of chess.
Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
To be honest, the last time I went on a holiday might have been 20 years ago. Nowadays, I enjoy hypnotising myself and entering my unconscious mind to go to other worlds and explore space.
