Meri and I found ourselves on stage together a few years ago pitching our respective businesses to investors, media and anyone else that would care to listen.  Meri’s intersection of Family and Technology is a fascinating one and offers as many challenges as it does opportunities.  Definitely watch this space!

What’s your story?

Quality Time Lab is dedicated to building digital tools to help long distance families manage, grow and strengthen the relationships with their loved ones. Being in a long distance family was easy while working in New York London, Hong Kong and Singapore thanks to the internet and mobile devices. But when my kids were born, we realised it was frustrating to spend time with the grandparents on video calls, and most of our friends had the same problem. So with a background in technology and product development, I decided to find a solution and created Quality Time Lab, a start-up committed to developing innovative apps that bring people together.

What excites you most about your industry?

The ability to find solutions for problems using new tools that before were only available through huge investments and product design companies.

What’s your connection to Asia?

I am originally from Barcelona, and I have lived and worked in Asia nearly ten years, in Hong Kong and Singapore and my kids were borned in Asia. we love this exciting part of the world for the energy, authenticity and culture.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?

Every city is full of opportunities in Asia, it depends on what you are looking for. I love Singapore and Tokyo, and find Jakarta and Bangok very exciting.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

Life is too short, use your time in projects you love.

Who inspires you?

My children, their creativity, unadulterated vision of the world, their energy.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?

That what you put in comes out. I thought it was a saying, but recently realised that giving to others if for me is the best way of receiving.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

Not much, because I ask myself this question every day. I would probably tell my younger self to quit smoking sooner.

How do you unwind?

Playing with my kids, Lego is great, I throw away the step by step instructions and challenge them to build cool stuff.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?

Bali. It has everything, nature, culture, beauty, calmness, and the green school.
