Olena Helps Applicants Achieve Their Career Ambitions

What’s your story?
My career took me from consumer retail to advertising to heading a multinational eCommerce business as CEO, with offices in four countries and 600+ employees. In 2017, I decided to branch out on my own, following the gap I observed in the job seeker needs space. I saw an unmet need for a more intimate and comprehensive product in the job-seeking market. That is how Resumeble came about. Fast forward to today, we have served customers in 80+ industries across 20+ countries and received a great response, as is evident on rating sites. The feedback we have received is a validation of our hypothesis that job seekers require a more personalized approach. I am now looking to grow this business and serve as many customers as possible.

What excites you most about your industry?
Recruitment and HR consist of equal parts, dealing with people, and the application of new technology. It changes fast and is a growing industry. It’s very exciting to create products and services that adapt to the constantly evolving applicants’ career ambitions and companies’ recruitment strategies. Additionally, it is immensely fulfilling to see a person you have just helped with his or her resume, realize their career dream, or find a job after a long search.

What’s your connection to Asia?
I have lived and worked in Asia for over 10 years. I built my career here which involved building organizations from the ground up. I started my company here, got married here, and adopted all of my dogs here. I have traveled extensively and have been exposed to the culture and business environments of several countries within the region.

Favorite city in Asia for business and why?
I love Singapore and Hong Kong for obvious reasons. They are truly international cities with a healthy mix of culture, business, and entertainment. In the past few years I have frequently traveled to India and I find Mumbai and Kochi to be fantastic cities with great talent.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Growth is good but it is not everything. Aim to be cash-flow positive as soon as you possibly can.

Who inspires you?
My rule is not to make idols out of anyone. If anything, I am inspired by the relentlessness of my golden retriever Mika.

What have you just learned recently that blew you away?
At the beginning of the 20th century, over 25% of all manufactured cars were electric with peak sales in the 1910s.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would have launched faster and wouldn’t have spent so much time ironing out the minute details. Instead, I would have spent more time establishing relationships with contractors and affiliates.

How do you unwind?
I read a lot, between 60-80 books a year. Reading is my way of consuming knowledge, relaxing, and finding a different perspective. I don’t have a preferred genre and always try to find a balance between business, literature, fiction, and non-fiction. One of my most recent discoveries is author Erik Larson with his absolutely fascinating historical non-fiction. And, I am finally discovering Stephen King’s earlier works.

Favorite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
I love Bali, India (Kerala is a fantastic place), and the Philippines.
