Victor Bourdeau is Passionate About Supporting People in Their Recovery From Pain and Injury

What’s your story?
The practice of Traditional Martial Arts, study of Buddhism and Taoism, Osteopathy and Chinese Medicine concepts brought me back to my homeland of Hong Kong after years in France and Canada. Mind, Body and Spirit have to be in harmony for the body to attain its real healing capacity. I currently practice osteopathy out of the Integrated Medicine Institute in Central, Hong Kong.

What excites you most about your industry?
I am fascinated about the new role that traditional medicine plays in modern society. Recent events have taught many to focus on their health from the root, including movement, nutrition, emotional and spiritual health. The intention to prevent rather than to cure makes my industry stand out.

What’s your connection to Asia?
I was born in Hong Kong, and spent many years travelling and developing sustainable development projects in South East Asia and China before starting an osteopathy practice.

Favourite city in Asia for business and why?
Hong Kong, for its hidden side. Thousands of years of tradition are conveyed in its culture, and appear in the importance attributed to values such as respect, honor, discipline, integrity and honesty. In Hong Kong your success stems from the cultivation of your moral values.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Zhuangzi’s teaching on the usefulness of the useless. A tree grows old if he is of no use to the world. This has taught me to promote growth by protecting one’s energy, then attaining higher levels of performance and skill.

Who inspires you?
Every person I meet during the day is a deep source of inspiration. I appreciate being grounded in the present moment to receive the lessons taught by each encounter, there is a master in every breathing being.

What have you just learnt recently that blew you away?
The power of action through inaction on a corporate level.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?
I would trust fate to bring me the lessons necessary and pray to have an open mind to receive them. This way no change of circumstances would change my attitude on life’s journey.

How do you unwind?
I train martial arts, meditate, read, spend time with my family.

Favourite Asian destination for relaxation? Why?
Hong Kong. One of its best kept secrets is that you can have a deep, relaxing experience despite the city’s reputation for constant movement and congestion. Many people from all over the world discover that they are in Hong Kong to heal, against all expectations.

Everyone in business should read this book:
The Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong. This book will teach about the mind of men, and is particularly interesting for the interpretations of Sun Tzu’s Art of War which are offered in it.

Shameless plug for your business:
My osteopathic practice is enriched by the daily contact with traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, naturopaths, medical doctors, psychologists & counsellors. This constant collaboration and collective knowledge adds a valuable depth to the osteopathy treatment. This depth is also due to the ability to refer cases with accuracy, when the joint approach can help reach the patient’s health objectives faster.
